Neverwas Haul is a self-propelled Victorian home of 8 wheels and three floors, composed at 75% recycled equipment and materials, which changes regularly with new interiors, engines and collections from his travels around the world.
This house invites members of the traveling Academy of Non-Natural Sciences in their quest to circle the earth without using a Zeppelin.
Inspired by the fantastic stories of Jules Verne and HG Wells, the Haul was designed by Shannon O’Hare and built by a team of volunteers at the Berkeley shipyard, California, in 2006. Originally intended to be a "mutant vehicle" for the art festival Burning Man in Nevada.
The Neverwas Haul measures 7,30 meters long on 7,30 meters high and 3,65 meters wide, It is built on the basis of a fifth wheel trailer and the second and third floors of the structure are stored in the first for towing on motorways..
When fully constructed and set up for the Burning Man exhibit, the Neverwas Haul is capable of propelling itself at a maximum speed of 8 km / h and requires a crew of ten people to operate safely, Victorian homes notoriously lack a rear view mirror. At present, Neverwas Haul lives in Obtainium Works, an "art car factory" located in Vallejo, in California, owned by O’Hare and home to several other "auto-entrepreneurs".
The Neverwas Haul was built as a way to explore the Black Rock Desert for Burning Man festivals by 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015. It was also presented at Maker’s Faire, Carson City Admissions Day. Handcar parade and regatta. They welcome all like-minded people who want to participate with them in this ongoing business.
