GLCOAT – Eight-Rod

She has 8 wheels, packet of four, 2 Mazda rotary engines, 2 differential and was for sale in December 2010 on Ebay for $4900. We do not know much about this car out of the ordinary.

Its new owner think it's an aeronautical engineer who built it so it is solid, except that it seems very heavy compared to a plane. Indeed, the front cover weighs nearly 130 kg and butterfly doors are so heavy that they are difficult to raise within.

its creator, now died was a man from Illinois, and he would have spent about $100.000 to create.

If it is heavy at that point is that it is built with square section steel tubes 2 inch)… Most bolts are drilled and wired to prevent movement. The fiberglass body is so thick that it is possible to walk on it without breaking.

The dashboard and interior are filled with lights and dials which it was impossible to determine the functions. Makes you wonder if this is not just for show…

This article dates from 2014, I will have to wait until 2020 for me to find new photos on Facebook, but without any explanation or interesting comment. Shortly afterwards I was contacted by email by Mr. Kevin Letts who spent part of his childhood watching the construction of the GLCoat 8 wheels.

At the moment not much, if not for him to confirm that few of the multiple cockpit buttons had a function ! The others were there to decorate, or impress…

The following photos show that the Octo-Rod was found or purchased, that she needed a wash, then it was observed in a garage. Nothing says it works yet, nor what it is intended for in the future.
