Fendt Trisix Vario tractor - 2007

When we talk about concept cars, show cars or trade show prototypes, we naturally think of consumer fairs like Paris, Geneva, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Detroit… with beautiful sporting and luxurious achievements that delight young and old.
Less known and less frequent, the prototypes of agricultural shows are all equally interesting !

Here is one that made history : the Fendt Trisix Vario, a very powerful demonstration tractor with three axles.
This conceptual study was unveiled in 2007 during the Agritechnica fair in Hanover, Germany.
It took 3 years to Findt engineers to carry out this project.
The originality of the concept combines the advantages of crawler tractors with those of wheeled tractors, and that without the disadvantages of one or the other principle of traction. Compared to the traditional traction principle, three-axle concept guarantees a clear improvement in power transfer and traction. The overall width of the tractor allows it to move without restriction on the public domain (because no need for single or multiple pairing).

The Trisix concept has three axles 6×6 including two steering axles, at each end ... This is the key to the system that keeps them synchronized.
This allows a bearing surface of the tires greater than that of standard or articulated tractors and gives it a maneuverability equivalent to that of a chase.. Stability on slopes or hillsides is greater than that of a standard tractor, even under conditions where the tracks reach their limits. In order to optimize the traction force while preserving the soil structure, Fendt plans to equip its concept with a remote inflation system.

The cab taken from the X5 tractor and the “Variocenter” control system which already equips the series 900 Current GIV offers one of the best driving comfort and gait control in the high power category. With independent suspension, the six wheels provide an appreciable level of comfort and handling for the user.
A high-performance braking system, optionally combined with ABS braking, allows transport speeds of more than 60 Km / h.
To improve the behavior of this mastodon at this speed, the six suspended half-axles adopt an electronic anti-roll and leveling system, which provides road handling, driving comfort and cruising speed that cannot be compared to that of a chase.
At the rear of the vehicle, behind the cabin, a “pick-up” surface offers additional ballasting possibilities, for mounting containers or coupling semi-mounted or trailed tools.

With a maximum power of 540 ch (400 kW) the Trisix, in its current configuration, has two continuously variable transmissions. With a total length of 7,61 meters and a width of 2,75 meters, the Fendt Trisix Vario is, obviously, a new dimension tractor.
And to this day, more than 70 patents have been filed on and craft.

In summary, Fendt announces that, even if the American clientele is East European is more interested in chases and articulated, the Trisix boasts a number of unique benefits : a larger footprint and a more compact size than an articulated one, as well as higher speed and increased comfort compared to a chaser. And above all, Fendt also counts on the fact that the Trisix is better equipped to compete with chasers, when the soil is compacted and slippery on the surface.

The Trisix Vario which is still today the most powerful agricultural tractor to receive a continuously variable transmission and was not intended for production.

A priori, the Bavarian manufacturer continues to reflect on this project and will decide whether or not, maybe someday, to produce this machine or a derivative rather suited to large European operations, but to date Fendt has still not officially given away.
