Eliica de Hiroshi Shimizu – 2005
Eliica means “electric Li-ion battery car”. Keio University in Tokyo 38 companies have teamed up to develop this car. With its 8 wheels and 5,10 m long, and 2400 The Eliica kg reaches a maximum speed of 370 Km / h. Keio University's students wondered what would be the automobile 2010… And that response, guarantee zero emissions but far Japanese Midget. The aerodynamic study was further to allow greater speed. After ISA and KAZ, Hiroshi Shimizu wanted to develop the KAZ2 which will be renamed Eliica for the occasion.
The Eliica represents an all-new Supercar, large and luxurious, from 5,1 meter, which stands out for its excellent performance with speeds between 190 and 370 km/h according to version, and an autonomy of 300 and 180 kilometers respectively. It also highlights the enormous power of its eight electric motors, reaching a total of 850 ch (the fastest) and 640 ch (the most autonomous). The technical promise that could soon increase, even considerably, autonomy.
The car attracts attention for its unique design which takes great care of aerodynamics with a Cx of 0.16, and it takes four wheels in the front and four in the back, two of the four axes are directional, and all have a hub motor. In fact, in each wheel hub, a powerful electric motor is installed, which transmits its power directly to the wheel, which only had to be synchronized to give a harmonious feeling.
The concept of “integrated platform” is the basis of this new technology, composed of electric motors in all eight wheels, a chassis which in turn incorporates almost all the components plus the lithium ion batteries (so all the weight is centered on the lower platform, ideal for excellent road grip). Another unique detail is the tandem suspension, helping to reduce wheel size, either eight smaller wheels or four larger ones.
Two types of the most modern lithium-ion batteries, which indeed appear as the battery of the future allowing many refills without problem and having a very reasonable weight compared to their power, are used. Charging time is less than other types of batteries. One of the batteries is specially prepared for high speed and acceleration, while the other is intended to give a lot of autonomy. What changes, is the energy density between 41 Wh/kg et 72 Wh/kg and the power density of 1 500 W/kg and more in high flow version and 700 W/kg for high autonomy.
In the Eliica, four batteries form one module and twenty modules form the complete battery. The car uses an inverter to convert direct current to alternating current and is water-cooled. Each motor under the control of this inverter has a maximum torque of 100 Nm, about 12 500 revolutions per minute and a power of 80 kWh. The motors selected are neodymium iron type permanent magnet synchronous motors. Integrated into the wheel hub carrying a planetary reduction gear to reduce speed and disc brakes.
It was also planned to sell the Eliica, a priori in 2 versions, a long and a short (never built). Hiroshi Shimizu looked for investors he apparently did not find and he probably did not want to repeat these previous problems by opening pre-registrations for the Kaz and having only 2 pre-orders when he was expecting a hundred.
