Renault 10 custom – 6×2 -1987

As often in the automotive world, I have very little information on a model and yet I am writing an article. This is the case with this strange Renault 10 which I only found 2 photos in the years 2000. It’s more recently (18 years after !), and by chance on Facebook that I came across other photos. I contacted the postman who left me only a few extra things that I deliver to you today. The 2 last photos were taken in the years 80 according to its author.
Its designer left me a comment at the bottom of this page, his name is Jean-Pierre Giard.

This Renault 10 started life with tuning, probably in 1985, then she was seen at the Tour de France du Custom in 1987 in 6 wheels.

Already equipped with an Alpine engine
The widening of the tracks +22 cm

A priori she had won some beauty awards, the tracks had been widened by 22cm, overfitted with headlights, dont 2 between,  and with a personalized interior which will remain in condition thereafter. She also had a metal step.

The extension of the Renault 10

The R10 has been extended at the rear to accommodate one more axle, and suddenly, equip it with 2 Alpine engines 1600.

In any case there is a crazy place ! She was measuring 5,80 meter !

Like any good artist, Jean-Pierre Giard modified his car to make it even better. He had first removed the 2 Alpine engines to fit a Rover V8 engine 3,5 Liters a Jaguar XJ6 bridge. The space thus freed would then accommodate either rear seats “rumble-seat” Ford style 1930, either a sport fin !

A Jaguar XJ6 bridge was installed on this new version
Security then did not exist in the back seat !
The rumble-seat is in place, the fin is placed on the ground.
A big teddy bear keeps the back seat !

On the end, Jean-Pierre apparently set out to completely modify his R10 to make it more aggressive with the 8 exhausts coming out of the roof, a Dragster steering wheel and a much more rudimentary interior…

Unrecognizable !
An extremely simplified interior with roll bars

And then Jean-Pierre Giard left to work in Canada, thinking he couldn't sell his R10, he dismantled the mechanics, then he cut the car into pieces and finally scrapped it…

Like always, if you have additional info on this strange Renault 10 to 6 wheels, do not hesitate to contact me on marc@sixmania.fr or in the comments, thank you.

  1. I was the owner of this r10 that I destroyed seeing that I was leaving to work in Canada and I never wanted to sell it as my seat pick eup) it will never be for sale it was never born with its v8 3li5 engine and its xj 6 bridge. on the other hand it was dauf but alpine engines 1600 and a single transmission in the back two hoods; behind seats;22cn enlarged and metal footstool , was 5m80 long
that's the story I love all 6 or 8 wheels but now impossible considering the controls very hard approved and expensive thank you I am falling on it without wanting it

If you have some additional photos, you can send them to me at marc@sixmania.fr and I will put them in your page, a photo of you too if you want or of your other customs. We really regret that this R10 no longer exists…
