Isetta 6 wheels – Henry Shaw
Henry Shaw was a private coachbuilder, he was the boss of an extraordinary company in Scarborough, who was modifying cars with strange techniques, as from elsewhere, enough to scare classic automakers.
3 cars were made by the company,
- – the Riley Merlin sedan (to the left), a car entirely made of aircraft quality ply wood in Gabon (lol) animated by a 1,5 L and a box 4 speeds, “Interesting to drive” according to Henry
- – the Capri on stilts (to the right), under this young body, a Humber Pullman Staff who served in North Africa in 1942, Henry was riding with, but rot has taken over, he then installed the hull of a Capri…
- – And, the model that interests us (between), an Isetta at 6 wheels, a 59 BMW 600 Cabin Car. As the original transmission and engine had been torn off, he created a subframe with a Mini Austin engine from 850 cm3 and 4 wheels to support everything. It had excellent braking thanks to its 6 wheels. The assembly of the set took only a month.
here, a tiny Sixmania article for an Isetta 6 wheels that no one had ever heard of and for which I don't even have a whole photo to show you ! lol
If however you have other photos of this fabulous (lol) Isetta, please send them to me at marc@sixmania.fr
