Holden HT Hearse Hot-Rod 6 wheels - Australia 1970
Tell me that as a car specialist at 6 wheels I could make my last mortuary trip in a hearse at 6 wheels… Even in Hot Rod 6 wheels… well I don’t care a little… Or just for showing off ? I would prefer that while I was alive !
On the other hand, in countries where crazy cars are more important, I think of the USA or Australia, so why not !? And as someone close said, "Followed by a jazz concert played by blacks", that would be the best !
The idea of the Hot Rod 6 wheels one day sprouted in the mind of Bruce Varley in Sydney Australia.
To create a little more atmosphere, he added a Hot-Rod option for loved ones, and even an optional Harley Davidson escort with fake cops at the controls !
The owner, Bruce Varley, is an automotive specialist and has used this business concept for several years. It had been almost twenty years since he had the idea of a funeral service specifically intended for automobile enthusiasts. The final product took much longer than expected, but ended up existing.
The hearse at 6 wheels is a Holden HT Brougham called Gloria and the car for loved ones is also a Holden HK Brougham called Christine. These 2 models are largely inspired by the years 1970-1980. And Bruce actually owns these cars for years 70 !
Bruce Varley loved to customize his cars, the sedan and station wagon have undergone a lot of external and internal modifications since forever.
On the station wagon, the day he decided to make it a hearse (before it was his everyday car), he removed the door handles, did a shiny black paint with flames, redone the interior in black velvet, lots of extra gauges and added modern air conditioning in the old nozzles. He also added 2 small roof windows in the front.
He had bought a second HT station wagon which served as donor to create 6 wheels capable of receiving a coffin at the back. The car has been extended by 91cm and the added axle has remained neutral, simplifying the delicate operation.
A base, Bruce Varley wanted to keep the rear positions of the station wagon, but ultimately he was forced to delete them. He still kept the bottom of 2 doors, acting as spaces for the compressors of the rear air shock absorbers and for the working equipment used for the transfer of the coffin. The tailgate has been modified to a custom lateral opening allowing easy transfer of the coffin.
A side window of 1m80 has been specially created and engraved with flames.
A whole bunch of specific little accessories were hand built by Bruce and have been chrome-plated.
A Chevy V8 engine 350 of 290ch replaced the 307 factory, chosen for its simplicity, generous performance and reliability. An air extractor was added in each of the cars, as well as twin exhaust systems from 2 inch).
The brakes and suspensions have been modified and reinforced. Mounted on Pro Stock 13 rims×7 and 15×10 custom chrome and pavement from BF Goodrich T / If and 215/50 and 295/50 white lettered for showing off !
The Holden 6 wheels was completed after 16 years, and the 2 cars were unveiled together at a reception.
The funeral company Hot Rod Funerals was created in 2015 and Bruce and his team quickly gained a unique professional reputation in the Sydney metropolitan area.
