Camping-car 6 wheels on Citroën ID base - Finland 1975
This weird motorhome was for sale as a summer cottage, when Kyösti – who was part of a passionate team – bought this motorhome with his friends.
It had been abandoned for years because no one wanted to embark on such a restoration project, of such magnitude there was so much work. Today he belongs to a slightly crazy Citroëniste (who is unfortunately not on Facebook).
This motorhome was designed at the end of the years 60 and built in the years 70. From memories of Kyösti, the motorhome has never driven before 1975, then he settled on a piece of land and never moved from it.
I leave you a moment to discover the Citroën ID 19 at my friend's Red Box
Technically, it is based on the DS19 of the years 1950 with hydraulic transmission. Basically, all the motor and hydraulic elements are all located inside a self-contained unit.
The body is made of pine and some aluminum plates / aircraft magnesium bonded together.
The guy who designed and built this motorhome that worked at Sisu at that time, a Finnish heavy vehicle manufacturer. The design was not homologated for the road at the time and he was driving with Sisu garage license plates. In fact it lacked the anti-roll bar to have the approval of the Finnish Mines.
Mining registration started in 1975 and, insofar as Kyösti's research with local authorities was successful, it is still possible to register as a special motorhome from 1975, Mark: MKA, production number 0001.
The third axis, is also hydraulic. It was necessary to install it because the mass of the vehicle at full load (8 people) exceeded 3000 kg.
All the suspension comes from the Citroën ID with 6 spheres, one for each wheel, who are independent. The height is adjusted by the information of the stabilizer bar.
Exceptional, Kyösti has almost 200 handmade plans and entrusted some to Sixmania.fr
Many thanks to Kyösti Rakkola for her photos and her knowledge.
